Chief Adviser seeks advice from political parties on three issues

Amid the ongoing situation in the country, Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has sought advice from political parties on three issues.

On Wednesday, during a meeting, Asaduzzaman Fuad, joint secretary of the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), informed the media after leaving the Foreign Service Academy around 5:15 pm.

During the meeting, government adviser Adilur Rahman Khan presented the agenda on behalf of the government.

Asaduzzaman Fuad said that the Chief Adviser is discussing three issues with active political parties in the anti-fascism movement.

These issues include: what actions the state should take regarding the propaganda being spread globally, including in India; what should be done about the vandalism and disrespect of the flag at the Assistant High Commission in Agartala; and opinions on the ongoing narratives about minority persecution in Bangladesh being spread globally.

Fuad also mentioned that no discussions regarding elections took place during the meeting.

All the political parties presented their opinions on what actions the state should take.

So far, the political parties have suggested that, although elections were not on the agenda for discussion, elections should be held after necessary reforms.

Some have also raised concerns about a service gap in ministries such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, and how the government plans to address these issues.

He added that all parties assured the government that they were united behind the state on sovereignty, independence, and national interest, expressing their support for the government’s decisions and struggles.

Fuad further said that during the meeting, a former military officer, also the head of a political party, advised on balancing tensions and concerns with India.

A few others suggested the creation of a national commission to address the issues related to minorities.

It was also suggested that if a national commission is formed, it could investigate the truth about the 50 years of deprivation, particularly over the past 16 years.

He mentioned that some opinions had been raised that the embassies in various countries still operate with a fascist mindset.

There is concern that these embassies are not taking necessary steps to prevent anti-Bangladesh sentiment.

In such cases, it was suggested that such officers be removed from the embassies and that those who supported the country’s sovereignty and stability be appointed.

Additionally, some political parties proposed that the state should establish a Public Relations (PR) cell to control the ongoing propaganda against Bangladesh.
