Bangladeshi homeowner murdered by tenant in Philadelphia

Mohammad Ekramul Haque, 56, son of Bibir Hat, Chittagong, Bangladesh, was murdered by Carlos, a Spanish-speaking tenant, on Saturday (January 20) night near 5800 Woodland in Southwest Philadelphia (Inna Lillah wa Inna Ilaihi Rajeun).

Arifur Shanta, a long-time friend of the late Ekramul Haque, said that Ekramul returned to his house last night to find the tenant Carlos, of Spanish origin, drunk and trying to calm him down. An argument ensued between them and at one point Carlos, the Spanish tenant, hit the landlord hammer on the head with a hammer he had handy. After being taken to the hospital, the doctors declared him dead. His body is in the hospital morgue.
Shortly after the incident, the Philadelphia police arrested Carlos the killer.

Mohammad Ekramul Haque came to America 24 years ago and was working as a wheelchair supervisor at Philadelphia International Airport after receiving an work permit through the Asylum case. He lived here alone. Sheikh Khorshan, president of the Chittagong Association of Pennsylvania, said that he has a daughter and a wife in the country. In this case, it will be decided after talking to the family whether the body of the deceased will be buried here or in the country.
